Integrated QoS Architectue for IP Switching

چکیده
In this paper we investigate issues related to the integration of QoS capabilities in the framework of IP switching technology. First, we propose an architecture which includes the RSVP protocol with minimal impact on the original structure and protocols of IP switching. This leads us to further investigate the queueing and scheduling mechanisms adopted both at the routing and the switching level in order to guarantee eeective support of Guaranteed (GS) and Best-EEort (BE) services. Based on the observation that GS service typically results in network underutilization, we then introduce a new service class (BR) which provides ows with long-term rate guarantees without impacting GS ows and while exploiting their unused bandwidth. Finally, we propose a possible implementation of this new service and we validate it with the help of simulation.

Wireless IP QoS ∗
This paper presents an overview of the Wireless IP QoS. Covering wireless communications paradigms, Internet QoS including QoS provisioning at different layers, IntServ and DiffServ frameworks, as well as MultiProtocol Label Switching, Resource ReSerVation Protocol, QoS Unicast and Multicast routing. We identify some important issues for Wireless IP QoS including mobility at both macro and micr...
متن کاملDifferentiated QoS routing in GMPLS-based IP/WDM networks
At this point in technology's evolution, the simplicity, elegance, extensibility, and broad compatibility of the Internet protocol suite has made it the automatic choice for most forms of communication. The attempts at resolution of this apparent dichotomy consist of a collection of technologies and philosophies known as Quality of Service. In an IP network, QoS defines the ability to compensat...
متن کاملPerformance Studies of MPLS Based Integrated Architecture for 3G-WLAN Scenarios with QoS Provisioning
Recently, the growing need of telecommunications such as VideoConference, Voice over IP etc. and for the diversity of transported flows, Internet network does not meet the requirements of future integrated services satisfying Quality-of-Services (QoS). This is become much more complex for heterogeneous networks especially for wireless networks. In this paper, we propose an MPLS based integrated...
متن کاملCost/Bene t Tradeo of Quality of Service Mechanisms in Integrated Services Networks
Internet Protocol (IP) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) are two switching technologies that are being used (or proposed) for large-scale integrated services networks. Integrated services networks are designed to support real time services, such as telephony as well as data services. Both technologies have the potential to radically change the economics and operations of telephone services. ...
متن کاملMapping of IntServ/RSVP reservations into MPLS domains
The Integrated Services (IntServ) architecture defines Quality of Service (QoS) services and reservation parameters to be used to obtain the required QoS for an Internet flow. After a reservation has been established using the Resource reSerVation Protocol (RSVP), each router classifies each incoming IP packet to determine whether it belongs to a QoS flow. The MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPL...
